Sustainability

Our ambition is to contribute to a more sustainable future by bringing renewable energy to industries, businesses, communities, and homes around the world. We will do this by investing only in renewables. At the same time, our business conduct must be sustainable and responsible – and we will actively contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We mainly contribute to a sustainable future through:

  • our core business – by delivering renewable energy
  • our business practices – by acting in a sustainable and responsible manner

To maximise our contribution, we seek to understand our impact, implement measures where needed and make follow-up an integrated part of our daily business.

Our impact can be positive or negative. Being honest about both dimensions, and continuously seeking to improve how we do things is central in Statkraft’s approach to sustainability.

Our core business

Renewable energy is key to combating climate change, and the majority of Statkraft’s power generation is from renewable sources: hydro, wind and solar.

Statkraft also generates heat and power from biomass and natural gas. Gas-fired power generation substitutes power generation based on coal in Europe, which leads to lower CO2 emissions from the power sector. However, going forward we are only investing in renewables.

Our business practices

We believe that high ethical standards are good for society and good for business. We are committed to high ethical standards in our business culture and in all our business activities.

In our business we take a precautionary approach to environment. This means that we conduct risk assessments and implement mitigating actions where needed. We also carefully consider the impact we have on the environment, climate and society, which sometimes that calls for careful balancing of various concerns.

We develop our business in a way that adds value to the local communities where we operate. We recognise our responsibility to building a greener, more equitable and inclusive society. That's why we adjust our business to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
